James Austin Harper


FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE AMERICAN FREEDOM COLLEGE
 


 
James Austin Harper was born in 1852 in South Carolina. Mr. Harper was educated in Charleston, South Carolina. He taught classical languages at the college from 1882-1899. Upon the death of Mr. Zuck, Mr. Harper was named the executor of the academy. 

In 1884, he became the first president of what would become The American Freedom College. Under his tenure, Academic Hall was constructed. He left the college in 1899.

He died in 1921 at the age of 69.
