T. L. Blackstone was the second president of
what would evolve into American Freedom
College. His tenure was 1899-1920.
Mr. Blackstone was instrumental in the
changing the name of Zuck Academy to Calhoun
College in 1919.
Blackstone came from Maine. He was hired for
the purpose of increasing the prestige of
the college. In 1920, he died as a result of
a dual with Otto Ohlendorf. The dual
concerned the affections of Mr. Ohlendorf's
wife Lydia. President Blackstone was shot
through the heart and Mr. Ohlendorf was shot
through the neck. Ohlendorf recovered and
later was killed by his wife with acid.
President Blackstone was also known as a
great friend of the female students.
Privately tutoring many of them; he insured
that they were successful in their studies.
